The Boulevardier cocktail, in case you’ve never heard of one, is what you’d get if the Negroni and the Manhattan ever had a love child: one part bourbon, one part sweet vermouth, and one part Campari, poured over ice in an old-fashioned glass and garnished with an orange twist. It’s one of those rare retro-cocktails-making-a-comeback that doesn’t call for ingredients you’ve never heard of or a funny-shaped glass. It’s also very enjoyable. I’m surprised, now that I think of it, that the drink hasn’t had its own Negroni-style mini-craze. Anyway, if you like Manhattans, you’ll like Boulevardiers, especially if you happen to be running low on bitters . . .
